I Am Not Neil Young, the musical
"Wilks’ genuineness shattered my prejudgment, and I, as Wilks said, had “a darn good time.”

'I AM NOT NEIL YOUNG, THE MUSICAL'
NEW FULL Version, 2012
This is a new exciting version of ''I Am Not Neil Young, The Musical'' with three additional scenes and new songs about Frank's life and his recovery of being a rock star!
The original 60 minute version won “Patron’s Pick” at the Windsor Fringe 2008 and “Critic’s Choice” at the Hamilton Fringe 2008 as well as rave reviews at the London Fringe 2008 and Toronto Fringe 2009. "I Am Not Neil Young, the musical", is a Canadian work, starring Frank Wilks who led and played in the band: “Buffalo Springfield Revisited”, which featured the late Bruce Palmer and Dewey Martin from the legendary group: “Buffalo Springfield” after Neil Young and Steve Stills had moved on. Frank tells his story of recovery from the highs and lows of rock and roll tours and sing Young, Stills and Wilks.
"I Am Not Neil Young" is co-written by Frank Wilks and Don Lamoreux.
The play contains songs and stories of Frank and the band playing at venues like the L.A Forum, the Jerry Lewis Telethon, the 30th Anniversary of Rock and Roll Tour and others. It also features anecdotes of time spent with the likes of Neil Young and Steve Stills.
The musical contains three motifs: first, the serendipity and insanity of becoming a rock star, second, the related descent into addictions, heaven and hell with the climb back to redemption and third, living for a while under the shadow of a superstar like Neil Young and then moving on as Frank evolves into an artist and songwriter in his own right.
What is exciting about this project is that it highlights not only some of Neil Young’s iconic songs, but brings a wider audience to the talent of Torontonian, Frank Wilks.
The work examines not only battles with fame but the more personal and ubiquitous problems that many face with addictions. It also points to a path of recovery for both those of us who have suffered personally from these ravages or have known those who have.
